We need to stop Depending on Imported Oil!

This country currently imports over 60% of the oil we use. This reliance on imported oil is a national security threat, and increases the worldwide demand which contributes to the currently very high prices for oil and gas.

One of the major reasons for the reliance on imported oil is the fact that radical environmentalists have blocked all development of our own resources. These attacks on our economy are creating a real problem in the form of high prices and a dependence on foreign powers who want to destroy this country. We have enough energy resources to meet our needs. An article citing a report by the Bureau of Land Management ( BLM ) in the Interior Department states that we have 31 billion barrels of recoverable oil on government property through out the United States. This oil can be tapped relatively easily and soon. We simply have to develop our own sources of oil and gas. In addition to the oil mentioned in this article, there are the continental shelves which do not appear to be included in the article. The report by the Bureau of Land Management can be found on the BLM web site. The oil property in the continental US can be tapped in the next few years and we can start the process of developing the continental shelves so that the oil there will be available in the future.

In addition to the oil and gas reserves, we have very large reserves of coal which can be converted to petroleum. There are also very large deposits of oil shale which can also be developed in the future, as technology is developed which will enable us to develop this resource in an economical and environmentally responsible manner. In short we have the resources to end our dependence on imported oil, if we can find the political will to over rule the environmental extremists and develop these resources.

A political fix to this problem is to tap the political clout of our senior citizens. The seasoned citizens in this country are currently very concerned with the impending bankruptcy of the Social Security System. This concern is valid when we consider that there are no assets in the so called Social Security Trust Funds. The funds only contain Special Issue Government Securities, which are nothing more than IOUs from the Treasury Dept. The way to start developing our own oil and gas resources is to set up an actual Social Security Trust Fund, which can't be spent by Congress, and transfer the oil and gas properties held by the Federal Government into this fund.

When these properties are transferred, the transfer must include a legislative mandate to develop these resources which supersedes all other laws. This will prevent existing laws from preventing the development of these resources. Part of this legislation would be what is known as a House Senate Concurrent Joint Resolution removing appellate jurisdiction from the Federal Courts, on any law suit which attempts to stop the development of these resources.

The senior citizens in this country need to get behind this program to fix Social Security and stop our dependence on imported oil. It appears they are the only group in this country which which has the political clout to counter the ownership of the Democratic Party by the environmental extremists. The way to send a message to our Congress Critters is to vote for candidates of the U.S. Taxpayers Party of Michigan. Our politicians in Washington are owned by various special interests, and will not act to solve these problems, unless they see the voters removing them from office, because they won't act on these issues.

There are trillions of dollars of potential oil revenue which will be available to fund Social Security. An actual trust fund will be able to secure favorable terms on oil and gas leases, and royalties on production, because the trust will own property which can be developed without being blocked by environmental extremists.

These actions will allow the development of our own energy resources, and end our dependence on imported sources of energy. Oil and gas properties would include ANWR ( the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge ), the continental shelves and the inter mountain west. These areas contain an enormous amount of resources which can fund Social Security over the next 20 to 40 years.

This country will eventually have to switch to clean, renewable power sources, but for the immediate future our need for energy will depend on oil, gas and coal. This current dependence gives us a window of opportunity to fund Social Security and Medicare while eliminating our dependence on imported oil.

The amounts being contributed by employees and employers would be adequate to fund the benefits provided by the system, if they were invested under the rules which apply to corporate pension plans. The only problem with the funding of Social Security is that Congress has spent the money.

If we do not grab this opportunity to stop our reliance on imported oil and fund the Social Security and Medicare System. Our country will be facing bankruptcy and a sharp decline in our standard of living because of the cost of imports. I need the help, support and votes of the voters here in Michigan's 12th Congressional District so that I can do my part to help this country avoid an impending disaster. By myself I can do nothing. With your help we can make the Congress Critters in Washington realize they must make these changes if they want to stay in office.

Voting for an unknown third party candidate who is advocating these changes will send a very powerful message. Vote for a change. Vote for Les (me). I need your votes, to tell the politicians in Washington that Social Security must be fixed and the importing of oil must end.

Campaign contributions are also needed so that I can promote my campaign.
